    School of Midwifery

This big institution is an immortalization of the effort of the Irish people through the devotedness of their sons and daughters, the early missionaries.

The Hospital and the two schools built by these great Irish children remain the pride of the church in this part of the country and our nation in general as well as in Europe/America.

Founded in 1939, has built up a reputation in the area of professional skills and good moral. The products then were grade 11 Midwives who learnt on  the job.

After the Nigerian civil war, the authorities made frantic efforts to bring the school above its former glory since some of these Holy Rosary sisters who piloted the affairs of this school never had higher qualifications to function as matrons, clerks or Tutors. The entry qualification then was below what existed after the war. More qualified Doctors, Tutors and instructors were employed to help raise the standard.

In 1980, a new school block was built to meet up with the standard requirement of Midwifery training in Nigeria. The building has the following in- built facilities, five (5) staff offices, one (1) Demonstration room, one (1) Demonstration store, One (1) hall, two (2) classrooms, one (1) Conference room, one (1) staff room, one (1) Staff common room, two (2) examiner’s room, Ten (10) toilets, One (1) Kitchenette and two (2) stores, one (1) computer room, one (1) central Library with that of the school of Nursing, one (1) Field for sports and a hostel to accommodate the students.

As life becomes more complex, there was an urgent need for improved technology for enhancing health care delivery, the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria thought of a better curriculum for comprehensive Nursing care to families and society at large.

Though the present curriculum poses a higher demand on the students, the products cannot be compared with those of former. The school is also undergoing some reforms according to the challenging needs of the society in healthcare delivery.
